I’m saying goodbye to Founders and Coders soon and that feels like a good opportunity to talk about the reasons why I’ll be hanging around with the community after my employment with the organisation is over!
In the last year and a bit I took the biggest leap of faith of my working life and left the career I’d been chipping away at to go learn a new skill. Since then I’ve had the chance to learn in a community-based environment, went on to start a small web-agency with other alumni, worked with charitable organisations on products that were interesting and personally fulfilling, mentored others on their journey and was able to invest a lot of time into what became my passion-project leading the open source development of Kindly.
This was all possible because of SPACE4 and Founders and Coders creating a space for its alumni to explore and learn in whatever way makes sense to them. I have made new and lasting connections with a community of people that are going through the same struggles.
I’ll be joining future cohorts as a mentor and speaker because it’s fulfilling; because I remember how much I appreciated those who did it for me and because a space like FAC deserves everyones’ attention. Now that I’ve finished at Founders and Coders I’m moving onto a full time position working in the digital team at Islington Council, so I’ll be remaining part of the wider local network, and popping into SPACE4 often.
