The Co-working Space That Actually Lives Up to the Hype

I work as a Filmmaker in the non-profit sector and run a Production company called TOAST Collective. I had been looking for a co-working space for well over a year before I discovered SPACE4. All these other spaces advertised themselves as collaborative, friendly, sociable, etc., but after signing up, I soon discovered this wasn’t the case and left shortly after.

After going through this process about 5 or 6 times, (lost count) I had almost given up hope and pretty much was resigned to spending the rest of my days working from my bedroom. That was before SPACE4 came into my life. I stumbled upon them by chance after doing a last ditch Google search. Given my recent history with co-working spaces I didn’t approach my free trial day with much optimism but I was very pleasantly surprised the minute I walked in.

Firstly I was greeted by the awesome Maddy (SPACE4 Mum/bouncer) who showed me around and had loads of time for me—something I hadn’t experienced with other co-working spaces. I was blown away by the size of the space, massive separate kitchen and dining space which was unheard of in the other places I had rented. Also a biggy for me was that everyone had the same size desks (which are huge), irrelevant of whether you come in once a week or are full-time. There are also really decent 4K monitors for everyone to use at no extra cost. Loads of other extras too, like free tea and coffee, community lunch every Wednesday, and great social events to attend.

I have now been here now just over 2 years and am so grateful I discovered this awesome little hideaway in Finsbury Park. There is a genuine, passionate community here at SPACE4  and I have met some brilliant, open-minded, and beautiful people whom I have both worked with and call friends. Stan, whom I met here helped design and build my website. The genius Romain colour-graded my showreel and gives me brilliant advice on things film-related and more on a daily basis! New people are joining weekly, all wonderful, varied, creative and passionate about what it is they do, and everyone inspires each other. I have also recently made connections with people that work in Islington Council through being at SPACE4 and have started work on a fantatsic project filming Refugee’s from all over the borough.

As cheesy as it sounds, SPACE4 is more than just a co-working space. To me, it’s an incredible community of hard-working, passionate, open-minded, and beautiful friends and co-workers who inspire me daily.
